Rebecca Pearl at Benjamin Art Gallery

Miss Maryland, Brittany Lietz, presented Rebecca Pearl with the Benjamin Art Gallery 2007 Artist of the Year Award at a public art show reception on November 17, 2006 at the gallery.  The event coincided with the premier release of Rebecca’s third limited edition print of the Hagerstown Series entitled “On Time – Walnut Lane,” circa 1916.

Cliff Springer, Benjamin Art Gallery CEO, commented on the event, “Miss Maryland graciously accepted our invitation to present Rebecca Pearl with the Benjamin Art Gallery Artist of the Year Award.  Rebecca’s keen artistic sense has impacted the community.  Patrons are thrilled that Rebecca focuses on local scenes and events and genuinely appreciate the Hagerstown Series triology.”

Rebecca Pearl was raised in a family overflowing with artistic talent.  Her late father, James Pearl, her mother, Elizabeth Prongas, and her sister, Debbie Souders, are well known artists in the region.  From her parents, she learned many techniques in drawing and painting while she received her formal art training at the Schuler School of Fine Art and Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

The artist’s enthusiasm for life, art, and family are deeply illustrated through her ability to capture light with a subtle intensity.  Her inspirations were cultivated by life experiences in Frederick County and include a broad range of topics such as animals, architecture, marine subjects, flowers, and historic scenes.

Rebecca has been a member of the prestigious Baltimore Watercolor Society since 1980 and has exhibited on the top floor of the Baltimore World Trade Center and at the USF&G Corporation.  Between 1998 and 2003, she established and managed the Pearl Gallery in the Hampden community.  The University of Maryland at College Park and the Washington County Museum of Fine Art in Hagerstown include her drawings and paintings in their permanent collections.  In June of 2004, she was honored by personally presenting a work honoring St. Elizabeth Ann Seton to Pope John Paul II in Vatican City.

Rebecca lives in Rocky Ridge with her husband, James Zeigler, and shares their country home with Teddy, the German Shepherd, Fritchie, the Yellow Labrador, and a very intelligent cat, Sima.  There the artist works in her studio overlooking the beautiful Catoctin Mountains.
